Complex and true to taste for a cool grown Merlot. The grapes for this wine came from Cline's Carneros Home Vineyard and their Lazy C Estate Vineyard, both in the Sonoma Coast region. Cline Home Ranch is located in the fog-and-wind-cooled southern Sonoma Carneros growing regions surrounding the winery. The cool growing conditions bring out the classic herbal flavors of these grapes. The grapes are hand-picked and destemmed without crushing. This gentle handling minimizes extraction of the bitter elements in the seed and stems. The grapes are then pumped to a stainless tank. Fermentation temperature is controlled and the wine is pressed at dryness. Malolactic fermentation is completed in the primary fermenter. The wine is racked and moved to barrels. Approximately 35% of the wine is aged in new French oak for a period of 14 months.
