The Sceales Vineyard in Alexander Valley, Sonoma is 4 acres of dry-farmed Grenache vines that are approaching 100 years old. 2014 was another good year all around, but the Sceales Vineyard over delivered for the vintage. Like '13, it is concentrated with bright fruit flavors, complex tannins, and more Grenache straight forwardness, but it is also denser and has the makings of a wine that will age very well. The wine is fermented with native yeasts and 100% whole clusters. They foot tread the fermentors and pressed lightly at dryness limiting the yield to avoid too much stemminess or unwanted stem tannin.
"This vineyard designate is 100% whole cluster fermented, an interesting study on the grape. Floral and earthy with lavender and black licorice aromas, it imparts substantial oak and tannin beneath its light rendering of black cherry fruit." – Wine Enthusiast, 87pts.
