This is the inaugural vintage of the LOLA Artisanal Series Coast Grade Vineyard Pinot Noir this year. The vineyard is situated just under a mile from the Pacific Ocean on Ben Lomond Mountain – the westernmost area of the Santa Cruz Mountain appellation. Planted on sandy loam soil with a shallow underlying bed of limestone, the vineyard sits just above the coastal fog-line, lending to cool evening and early morning temperatures and afternoon spikes of near perfect moderate heat, ideal for ripening world-class pinot noir. The 2014 vintage has aromas of ripe plum, strawberry and cola. Tart cherry, fresh fig and bright acidity coat the palette finishing with subtle, spice notes.
